Puerto Rico Engineers Win First Upson Award

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The first Maxwell Upson Award for meritorious service to this island’s construction industry was announced recently at an Associated General Contractors (AGC) banquet here.

Winners of the award were Jacinto Galib and Miguel J. Nolla, both of whom are engineers and Past Presidents of AGC. Galib is President of Galib and Galib, Inc., which specializes in bridge and highway construction; Nolla is President of Nogama Construction Corp., General Contractors.

The award, to be given annually during Contractor’s Week, is sponsored by Corporation Raymond, S.A. a wholly owned subsidiary based in Puerto Rico, and the AGC. The late Mr. Upson is remembered for his pioneering work in construction and as past President and Board Chairman of Raymond. He died in 1969.

The award was presented by Julio E. Vizcarrondo Jr., AGC President, and Alejandro S. Herrero, Corporation Raymond Vice President and General Manager.
